In most cases, you do not need to purchase any additional materials to assemble and use your rink. However, if you are building on a significantly uneven surface or in an area with unique site conditions, you might need extra leveling materials or tools, but these are not required for typical installations.

How long does it take to set up the rink kit, and do I need special tools?

No special tools or lumber are required to assemble the RinkMaster Skating Rink Kit. The kit is designed for easy, tool-free assembly. Two people can typically set up an average-sized rink kit in about 90 minutes, provided the ground is prepared in advance. The process is simple and straightforward, making backyard ice rink setup accessible to almost everyone.

Does my yard need to be perfectly level to install the kit?

Most yards are not perfectly level, and the RinkMaster Skating Rink Kit is designed to handle up to 8 inches of slope across your rink area. While some customers have managed to set up a rink with a greater slope, doing so can make installation more challenging and may require additional effort to achieve a flat playing surface.

If your yard has more than 8 inches of grade difference, consider using snow, soil, or other materials to help level the area before setup. Following the manufacturer's recommendations will help ensure a safer and more consistent ice surface.

Can the kit be adjusted if my yard is smaller than the listed size?

Yes, the frame parts in the RinkMaster Skating Rink Kit are telescoping, making it easy to adjust and reduce the size of the rink to fit your available space. This feature allows for flexibility and ensures that the rink can accommodate a variety of backyard dimensions without additional cutting or modification.

Will building a rink damage my lawn or grass?

No, your grass will not be damaged by using a rink liner in the winter. Grass naturally goes dormant during cold weather, so covering it with a liner and ice has no negative effect as long as you remove the liner promptly in the spring, after the snow and ice have melted.

The only way damage can occur is if the liner is left on after temperatures rise and the grass begins to grow again. For best results, wait to install your liner until the ground is frozen, and remove it as soon as possible once the thaw begins in spring. This will ensure your lawn stays healthy year after year.

How long will the rink kit and included liner last?

With good care, the RinkMaster Skating Rink Kit will provide many years of service. The RinkMaster Rink Liner will last only as long as it is well cared for. Once it has sustained multiple tears or puncture holes, it is usually time to replace it, as it will not hold water well and make rink making difficult. Small holes can be repaired with light coloured adhesive tape found at any building supply store.

The most common cause of tears in the Rink Liner are skate cuts that usually happen in the spring when the ice begins to thaw. To extend the life of your Liner, do not use the rink once the days become warm and the ice surface begins to deteriorate.

What is the best way to store the kit and liner when not in use?

The Skating Rink Kit can be stored in its original box in a garden shed, garage, or any other dry storage area. For the Rink Liner, it is important to store it somewhere clean, dry, and protected from pests—especially mice, as they may chew holes in the liner. Rolling or folding the liner neatly and placing it in a sealed plastic container or heavy-duty bin will offer the best protection. Avoid storing the liner in direct sunlight or extreme heat, as this can shorten its lifespan. Proper storage helps ensure your kit and liner are in good condition for the next season.

Are replacement liners available for my rink kit?

Yes! We offer replacement liners in a wide variety of sizes to fit your Skating Rink Kit. You can refer to the size chart on our website to determine the correct replacement liner for your specific kit. If you’re unsure which size to choose, we recommend measuring your rink or consulting the chart to ensure a proper fit.
